#WeeklyTip – Stay Hydrated 0 130

Hydration is key to a glowing skin. The secret to most people with great skin is they keep themselves hydrated inside out. This winter, pay special attention to your beauty regime. Winter has a way of drying out your skin and hair which eventually causes your face to look flaky and dehydrated. Here is what you can do to stay hydrated.

Drink lots of water before you sleep
Your body restores a lot of its loss component at night while being in a constant recovery mode. While you sleep your body is burning calories and using up all the fluids in your body so drinking plenty of water before sleeping helps maintain the hydration in your body.

Moisturize, Moisturize, Moisturize

At night: Lather on a generous amount of rich moisturizer on your face and body – especially your elbows, knees, feet and hands. A rich moisturizer helps penetrate into the skin over night giving you soft, smooth and hydrated skin.

In the morning: After cleansing, don’t leave the skin naked for more than 30 seconds, as this can dehydrate it, leading to increased dryness. Apply a hydrating toner and moisturizer to seal in moisture. Applying moisturizer to damp skin helps seal the dampness into the skin. Keep a bottle near the bathtub, shower stall, and at every sink and use liberally every time you wash.

Wash your face with lukewarm water

Lukewarm water allows for the necessary natural oils remain present on your skin and not get washed away completely. Natural oils are very important for your skin to not dry out.

Apply sunscreen daily

The sun, cold winds, dust and pollution can dry out your skin and make it age before time so be sure to apply sunscreen before you head out of the house. Investing in a light daily SPF moisturizer is a must. Sunscreen not only protects your skin from the harmful effects of the sun but also forms a protective layer from other pollutants that clog pores.

Exfoliate once a week

Exfoliating is a great way to slough off dead skin and dirt that’s clogging your pores – it is imperative for maintaining fresh and supple skin. Moisture can’t get in if the dead cells are too plentiful – no matter how much moisturizer you’re applying, without exfoliation hydrating your skin is impossible.

Make the most of Hydrating Masks

Using masks that are high in water content or help restore moisture in your skin should be an essential part of your weekly beauty routine. While you can purchase a variety of hydrating masks to apply on your skin to replenish your skin, a homemade fruit mask is a less costly and effective remedy for dry skin. Tomatoes, aloe-vera, cucumbers and zucchini are some of the many things in your kitchen that can go on your face.

Drink juices high in water content

Staying hydrated inside is important to look hydrated outside. There is nothing more refreshing than fresh juice – be it watermelon, cantaloupe, apples, oranges, kiwi, cucumbers, celery or carrots,  . Make sure you’re getting enough vitamin C and zinc to support the healthy production of collagen and elastin.
