Joker Actor, Joaquin Phoenix, Arrested at DC Fire Drills Protest

The Joker superstar, Joaquin Pheonix was recently one of the people arrested at as a part of the Jane Fonda’s weekly “Fire Drill Friday” protests on Capitol Hill. 

“Fire Drill Friday” marches are a weekly event coordinated by scientists, activists and community leaders to urge politicians to take action on climate change that started when Fonda and others promised to be arrested every Friday as of 2019.

On the official “Fire Drill Friday,” Jane Fonda states,

“The climate crisis is not an isolated issue — it involves every part of our economy and society. Because of that, each Friday demonstration will have a different focus as it relates to climate. Scientists, movement leaders, experts, activists, Indigenous leaders, community members and youth will come together to share their stories and demand that action be taken before it’s too late.”

In the recent protest, which was the 14th week of the Fire Drill Friday, the celebrities included the recent Golden Globe winner, Joaquin Phoenix and Martin Sheen were the latest celebrities to be arrested as part of Jane Fonda’s weekly climate protests.

According to the US Capitol Police, around 147 people were arrested that included the actor, Joaquin Phoenix. They were charged with obstructing the crowed and incommoding.

Pheonix has been a vegan since the age of three and has multiple times called out the meat and dairy industry for having a strong role in causing climate change adversely.

In his speech, Phoenix “Something I think isn’t oftentimes talked about in the environmental movement or in the conversation about climate change is that the meat and dairy industry is the third leading cause of climate change,” he said.

Phoenix continued, “I think sometimes we wonder what we can do in this fight against climate change and there’s something that you can do today, right now, and tomorrow, by making a choice about what you consume.”

The 14th protest was focused on major banks and investors that finance the alarming growth of the fossil fuel industry and its contribution to global warming.
