Government Plans to Impose New Rules to Control Digital Media

The government of Pakistan is planning to implement new rules for Digital media which could actually change the digital landscape of Pakistan.

The sources say that the rules are not just to restraint blasphemous content but also control all online content in Pakistan’s social media.

Citizen Protection Again Online Harm Rules are a new addition to the current legislation like the PECA and will allow the government to only require Federal Cabinet approval by bypassing industry stakeholders.

Federal Cabinet Approval has already been granted according to sources. Also, this brings any company that has an online presence on their ambit and not just social media companies. It is also said that companies who do not follow the rules in the 14-page document, they’ll get blocked in Pakistan.
