Pakistani Man Develops a “5-minute Coronvirus testing Kit”
Last week, the US based Abbott Laboratories, broke the news about a portable device to figure that detects whether a person has COVID-19 or not in just under 5 minutes.
Among the scientists behind the groundbreaking testing kit, one man behind is, Jamil Sheikh, a Pakistani origin scientist.
He has been called the brain behind the five-minute coronavirus test device that is developed under Abbott Laboratories.
Jamil Shaikh, currently located in United State, San Diego, but is originally from Badh town in Sindh’s Larkana district. He did his schooling from Karachi, Delhi College intermediate, and did his graduation in software engineering from NED University.
They said the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) granted it emergency permission to start making the test available to healthcare professionals as early as next week. In a press release, the test, which is the size of a small toaster and uses molecular technology, also shows negative results within 13 minutes.
In an interview with ABC News, Abbott’s Laboratory’s Vice President of Research and Development, John Frels, (Ph.D), stated that, “This is going to be the fastest molecular point-of-care test to date. It generates a positive result in 5 minutes and negative results in 13 minutes.”
As of now, 1,872 cases of Coronavirus are confirmed in Pakistan and 25 deaths have been reported.
