Karachi Has its Very Own Street Library

Pakistan’s first ever street library has been inaugurated in Karachi with over 600 books on different subjects. It was inaugurated on Quaid’s 144th birth anniversary. This library is located at the Commissioner’s Corner at Metropole right opposite Quaid’s house.

With the directives of Karachi Commissioner, Iftikhar Shallwani, the library was set up and inaugurated by Sindh Chief Secretary, Syed Mumtaz Ali Shah. The ceremony was attended by a number of senior officials, civil society members, political activists and literary figures.

The establishment of this library will promote reading culture an similar kinds of libraries should be established in other cities like Hyderabad and Sukkur. The commissioner also said all six districts will have such street libraries in the coming days and directives have been issued to all deputy commissioners to set up such libraries an also improve existing libraries.
