Waqar Zaka Challenges to File a Petition in the Sindh High Court to Lift the Ban on PUBG

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has placed a “temporary ban” on the popular mobile games, Player Unknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) after an appeal from various people. The ban was implemented shortly after a student committed suicide allegedly because of the game.

Popular Pakistan TV host and social media star, Waqar Zaka, has challenged PTA’s decision and on a public statement on his YouTube channel stated that he will challenge the ban and file a petition in the Sindh High Court.

He stated in his video that this decision will negatively impact Pakistan as it hinders the exposure of Pakistanis to e-sports which is a huge source of generating revenue online. He also stressed that this mentality has also caused the country to not progress in e-commerce as well.

In his video, he stresses, “These are the same people who don’t want our children to become famous around the world, who don’t want our country to generate revenue online, who want to send out a message to the e-sports providers around the world to prevent them from setting up their business here this is the reason why YouTube never did. These people will not allow us to evolve, a digital revolution needs to be brought.”

In defense of the ban, the authority said, “PTA has received numerous complaints against PUBG wherein it is stated that the game is addictive, wastage of time and poses a serious negative impact on the physical and psychological health of the children.”
