Dust Storm and Rain Take Karachi

On Wednesday, Karachi experienced an unexpected weather condition. Karachi was taken by dust storm and rain, because of which emergency was declared a the Jinnah International Airport.

Because of the wind, around 12 people were injured and traffic, plus power outages, were observed all over the city.

Dusty gales that moved at the speed of 90 kilometres per hour were observed in different areas of Karachi like Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulshan-e-Maymar, Super Highway, and Gulistan-e-Johar.

Due to the weather, the visibility was reduced to 500 metres, and small aircrafts at the airport were moved to a different location. The airport authorities also considered diverting a private airline flight that was scheduled to land at 11 pm.

The Pakistan Meteorological department said that the storm was triggered by the northwestern wind system in Baluchistan, which unexpectedly turned to Karachi.

The Met Office also denied that the dust storm was linked to the cyclone in the Arabian Sea, adding that it has passed by Karachi at a 750 km distance.
