A Day in the Life of Ehsan Saya, Daraz’s Managing Director, Pakistan

Most people take their working hours for granted: wake up at 8 a.m, work from 9 to 5, and then go home at 6 p.m and spend the remaining hours of the day relaxing, eating, and hanging out with family.

Not Ehsan Saya.

If one was to spend a day with Ehsan, they’d be left thinking: how does he have 25 hours a day when I have just 24? Ehsan begins his day at 7 a.m. He’s had a staple morning routine for years now, including a cup of coffee and a bowl of oatmeal that he has each day.

As the Managing Director of Daraz Pakistan, Ehsan holds a pivotal leadership position in the company. There’s no way to tell this by his attitude though: from the elevator to his workstation, Ehsan greets everyone on his way, from the security personnel at the office entrance to the board of directors in the meeting rooms.

Early in the day, Ehsan sets aside 15-minute windows to catch up with different teams in the country. One of the departments that Ehsan feels particularly invested in is Customer Services, often times sitting with CS personnel and inquiring about the complaints they’ve been getting and what they’re doing about them. As an online shopping platform, Daraz understands the importance of good customer service and Ehsan embodies this everyday.

Daraz is perfectly positioned between sellers and consumers. As Managing Director of a brand which ultimately works to connect two vastly different groups of people, Ehsan realizes that it’s important to be in constant communication with both groups. In his words, “It is not only necessary to know both groups but to understand them, to understand what they want and how they want it.

On busy days, Ehsan can be seen in meeting rooms throughout the office, hurriedly typing away on his laptop, busy with plans that demand immediate attention. On good days, far fewer than he would like, Ehsan is known for his friendly nature, never afraid to break out in laughter. He can often be seen talking to different members of the Karachi office, where he is primarily based.

Ehsan is often one of the last people to leave the office – but he’s never really off the job. His mind is occupied with current projects and future business strategies from the moment he wakes up and has his coffee to the moment he closes his eyes to fall asleep.
