Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry & Meghan step back from Royal Duties
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, just took a surprising huge decision that might impact the future of the British Monarchy.
On Wednesday, the couple made a rather hasty announcement that announced them of “stepping down” as Senior Members from the Royal family and retire from the royal duties.
On the Instagram handle, Sussex Royal, that is the official Instagram account of The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, they posted:
“After many months of reflection and internal discussions, we have chosen to make a transition this year in starting to carve out a progressive new role within this institution. We intend to step back as ‘senior’ members of the Royal Family and work to become financially independent, while continuing to fully support Her Majesty The Queen.”
The couple took this decision to work financially independents and allow them to be free from the royal constraints and restrictions. They want to be able to “to earn a professional income,” and also be able to handle their own media relations and press releases.
In their social media post, the couple also revealed that they plan to divide their stay between the UK and North America;
“This geographic balance will enable us to raise our son with an appreciation for the royal tradition into which he was born, while also providing our family with the space to focus on the next chapter, including the launch of our new charitable entity,” they wrote.
According to certain sources, the two decided to take this decision of stepping down as “senior” royal members without input from Buckingham Palace or royal officials.
According the official page for UK’s royal news, the royal family stated that; “Discussions with The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are at an early stage. We understand their desire to take a different approach, but these are complicated issues that will take time to work through.”
