Ed Sheeran is no doubt the most popular English singer, songwriter, guitarist, record producer..(deep breath) and an actor! When you’re talking about the latest music charts in the past decade, his name was frequently on the top and now his decade just got even better!
The Shape of You singer, Ed Sheeran, has been named UK’s artist of the decade this mid of December where he was honored with the special Official Chart Record Breaker Award, that celebrated his outstanding achievement of the following:
- Most Number 1s across the Official Singles and Albums Chart between the year 2010-2019 (12 Number 1s)
- Most weeks at Number 1 across the Official Singles and Albums Chart between 2010-2019 (79 weeks)
Upon his achievement, Ed Sheeran was overwhelmed and in a statement, said: “This is nuts – I didn’t really expect to have a career past five years, so to be able to have done it for a decade, … Thank you for your support.”
Previously, the recipients of the Official Chart Record Breaker Aware include Justin Bieber (who scored the top three positions inside the Official Singles Chart simultaneously), and The Beatle’s Paul McCartney as the most important albums act of all time.
Martin Talbot, the Chief Executive of the Official Charts Company, stated in a comment that: ‘’Ed truly has dominated this decade and is a worthy recipient of this amazing new award.‘’At the start of the decade, he was a little known (albeit highly rated) young 18-year-old lad from Suffolk – but his catalogue of achievements since then are genuinely remarkable. Today, he is firmly established among the highest level of global music superstars.’’
Sheeran has sold more than 150 million records worldwide, making him one of the world’s best-selling music artists. Two of his albums are in the list of the best-selling albums in UK chart history.
