Mahira Khan Teams With Hollywood Celebrities on the Refugee Issue

Mahira Khan, UNHCR’s Goodwill Ambassador for Pakistan, recently shared a video message on her Instagram in which she raised her voice on the ongoing refugee crisis happening in the world.

In her video message that caption reads, “Every action counts. Every voice counts. We’re proud to speak up for refugees everywhere. We all have a part to play in helping somebody else including me. What will yours be?”

In this fight against the plight of refugees, Mahira Khan shared screens with various Hollywood celebrities such as Riz Ahmed, Cate Blanchett, Ben Stiller, Benedict Cumberbatch, and many more others  to give an important message about improving the lives of refugees.

According to UNHCR, the video’s purpose is: “Xenophobia, negative stereotyping and fear are on the rise. All around us. Getting louder and louder and louder. Something needs to change. It is time to see refugees differently, to see that refugees, like everyone – when given the chance and the opportunity – can reach their potential, have a positive impact and give back.”

Mahira Khan is one of Pakistan’s biggest celebrities who has starred in Bollywood as well. She has starred in hit Pakistani movies such as Ho Mann Jahan and Superstar which have been top-grossing films.

In 2018, the actor began working with the UNHCR to highlight the issue of the 1.4 million Afghan refugees in Pakistan and their adverse conditions and on November 2019 she was named UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador for Pakistan.
