Railway Authorities Are Going to Shut Karachi-Lahore Shalimar Express
The railways administration has made the decision of shutting down the Shalimar Express train from 15th July – the train runs between Karachi and Lahore via Faisalabad. Now, the train from Mohenjo Daro to Sehwan, Karachi will be restored via the ML2 track.
This decision has caused concern among the passengers and business community, who’ve requested the authorities to take back the decision.
People are concerned because right now there are no trains that depart in the early hours and cross through Lahore, Multan, Faisalabad, Rahim Yar Khan, Lodhran, Bahawalpur, Nawabshah, Karachi and Hyderabad.
The Shalimar Express is the only one that departs from both Lahore and Karachi at 6 am and crossed through all the above mentioned cities before it reaches its final destination by midnight.
On the other hand, the railway department has prepared a report to shut down the aforementioned train. This will cause much financial loss to the department, because most other trains on the railway network are running at the current financial deficit.
Due to the frequent incidents of fire and accidents, the railway department has come under strict scrutiny. At lest 20 Sikh pilgrims lost their lives on June 3rd, while many others were wounded, due to a collision between a coaster and a train near Sheikhupura.
