Sehri Boosters

Yes! It’s that time of the month when we all dream of loosing all the weight we gained all year round. We all hope that miraculously Ramadan will come and cleanse our mind, body and soul and we will feel good as new. Well there’s no denying that the holy month does come baring a lot of positivity for the mind and soul however when it comes to the body, there needs to be a lot more thought and effort put in ten just relying on the fast to show its magic. The correct sehri can really change your day around! I mean it! What you eat for sehri will either slow you down or charge you up. Planing the head starter of the fast can give you energy to keep you active all day, take out a short amount of time for fitness and control your mood. Who would’ve though sehri could control mood right? But it does. Research shows that people get grumpy when they are hungry. Naturally having a random an un-calculated sehri can lead to hunger, sugar levels dropping and anger kicking in.

On the flip side, having the right sehri keeps your vitality high, sugar levels in check and boosts your ability to slowly breakdown food in your body and release the nutrients slowly to keep you energized all day. Sehri should comprise foods such as eggs, grains, dairy products and meat along with fruits, vegetables, low-fat milk, fruit juice and nuts.

Here’s my selection of the best superfoods! Don’t miss out on these sehri boosters:

Dates

A good source of energy, sugar, and fiber. Essential minerals such ascalcium, iron, phosphorus, sodium, potassium, magnesium, and zinc can be found in them. They also contain vitamins such as thiamin, riboflavin, niacin, folate, vitamin A, and vitamin K. It provides the body with sugar, helping restore low blood sugar after fasting all day. One of the most common reasons for headaches or dizziness during Ramadan is low blood sugar, which is why eating dates is very beneficial at the start of Iftar.

Flax Seeds

Flax seeds have been consumed for at least 6,000 years, making them one of the world’s first cultivated super food. One of the most extraordinary benefits of flax seed is that flax contains high levels of mucilage gum content, a gel-forming fiber that is water-soluble and therefore moves through the gastrointestinal tract undigested.

Oats

Oats also contain 2 percent of the recommended daily amount of calcium and 6 percent of iron. They are low in calories and have only 1.5 grams of fat. The benefits of eating oatmeal include lowering your risk of heart disease and colorectal cancer.

Honey

Honey increases performance abilities. This has now been verified with modern studies, showing that it is superior in maintaining glycogen levels and improving recovery time than other sweeteners. Its exact combination of fructose and glucose actually helps the body regulate blood sugar levels.

Muesli

Muesli typically has less sugar and calories than most breakfast cereals on supermarket shelves. It’s high in fiber and whole grains, which regulate the digestive system, are filling and can aid in weight control.

Another super food to stay full and lose weight at the same time is almond. Almonds are a source of vitamin E, copper, magnesium, and high-quality protein; they also contain high levels of healthy unsaturated fatty acids along with high levels of bioactive molecules (such as fiber, phytosterols, vitamins, other minerals, and antioxidants.
