Swine Flu Hits Karachi Again – Second Case Diagnosed

After 2020’s first case of swine flu reported in Karachi on 9th January, there’s now report of a second case of the H1N1 influenza.

Previously, the case were reported in the areas of Defence Housing Authority and Clifton. But, the new case was reported in the Federal B Area, where a 33-year old woman was confirmed to have been affected. Her family told the Express Tribune that the patient is in a critical condition and on a ventilator.

The woman was admitted to a private hospital on 10th January, after she complained about severe cough and high fever. The doctors did several diagnostic tests and then sent a nasal swab to Aga Khan University Hospital to get screened for swine flu.

On Friday, the 24th of January, the lab reports showed that the H1N1 Influenza A virus was found in her samples.

This is a second case reported in Karachi, after a 35-year old man died receiving treatment at a private hospital in Clifton.
