August 9th 2018 saw Samsung unveil to the world, the successor of the widely popular Galaxy Note 8, and an addition to the list of Galaxy Series; the Samsung Galaxy Note 9. Though Samsung received a lot of backlash from the Note 7’s explosive antics, the new Note is Samsung’s brainchild in merging the latest design with technology. Let’s look inside the Note to see what makes it impressive.
The Galaxy Note 9 is made available in two versions; 6GB RAM with 128GB Storage and the 8GB RAM with 512GB Storage. Both variants provide external memory supporting up-to 512GB memory cards. Now that’s a LOT of bytes. The phone is made available in Metallic Copper, Lavender Purple, Ocean Blue & Midnight Black.
The Snapdragon 845 chip-set gives Note 9 a powerhouse of a processing capability. However, non-US models will be equipped with Samsung’s own Exynos 9810 chip-set instead. This Octa-Core device will allow faster performance and sophisticated usage. With Android 8.1 Oreo being a stock firmware, Samsung has prepared this phone to meet the ever-growing expectations of their customers. The IP68 standard makes the phone splash-proof, but water-resistant (up to 1.5m for 30 minutes).
The display is the most looked-upon feature of the device. The phone’s 6.4 inch screen has a Capacitive Super AMOLED touchscreen with 16M colors. The front and the back glass have a protective Gorilla Glass 5 coating, making it scratch resistant against to razor-blades and keys. The ~516 PPI (pixels per inch) density brings out the true potential of the 1440 x 2960 resolution letting users enjoy the luxurious output.
Against the predecessor, the Note 9 is wider and has the consistent bezel-less design that sports different sensors and the front facing 8 Megapixel camera. The dual rear cameras (both 12 Megapixel) have different focal lengths, depth capturing and dual-apertures designed to work together to produce hi-res pictures and videos. Note 9 has one of the best smartphone camera that also offers still features like panorama, auto HDR, auto-focus and video quality of up to 2160p@30fps.
The phone is backed up by 4000mAh Li-Ion battery (20% more than the Note 8). This gives the Samsung phone all-day battery life, if not multi-day. And the QuickCharge 4.0 feature will ensure your phone charges faster than before. Samsung have kept the Type-C port consistent, as well as the 3.5mm headphone jack.
Inside the phone lies a hydro-carbon cooling system that keeps the phone from over-heating. The idea is similar to the inter-cooling used in advanced PC rigs. This will allow users to explore the phone’s features to the max, without it over-heating.
Of course, no Note review is complete without the S-Pen. The new generation S-Pen is designed to not only serve as a regular stylus but also has Bluetooth connectivity, making it useful for taking pictures, controlling music, slideshows, setting air commands, insta-notes and much more.
