Winter Flowers For Your Garden

Winter Flowers For Your Garden

It’s time to swap the summer blooms for fall flowers now that the days are growing shorter and temperature’s dropping. Fall gardens can be spectacular with bold combinations of the jewel toned colors of deep purples, rusts, scarlet, and gold. Here are our recommendations:

Chrysanthemum

Planted for their spectacular blooms that come in a variety of colors, shapes and sizes, mums are the perfect fall-blooming plant. These showy flowers bloom in late summer and continue into the fall, creating dense mats of color. Growing mums is an easy task as long as you keep a few things in mind. Plant mums in well-drained, evenly moist soil for a healthy and fresh bloom.

Ornamental Peppers

These multi colored peppers add an earthy hue to your autumn garden and are also edible. Beware though, they are usually too spicy for the average palate.

Ornamental pepper plants need a location with full sun. Their soil should be rich and drain well.  Other than that, these are pretty low maintenance and only have to be watered once in a while.

Zinnia

These sunny and perky flowers will definitely add some colour to your life, especially during the gloomy fall! Zinnia care should include watering at the base of the plant during early morning which allows the foliage and flowers ample time to dry off before nightfall. Clipping the plant back often results in more abundant blooms. These flowers will add colour and life to your garden no matter what the season!
